Corporate Accountant

Our client is seeking an exceptional candidate to join the Corporate Accounting and Tax team. This role is critical to the success of the organization and will be responsible for managing the corporate accounting and financial reporting for the operating company and the private holding companies held by the principals through a family office lens. The ideal candidate is highly organized, discrete, and experienced in both corporate and personal finance matters.

Responsibilities :

  • Maintain general ledger by accurately posting daily financial transactions that follows relevant accounting standards.
  • Perform tasks related to accounts payable and accounts receivable– posting invoices and ensuring they are paid in a timely manner.
  • Monitor daily cash balances and forecast upcoming payments and savings. Initiate internal transactions upon receiving necessary approvals.
  • Liaise with banking institutions on administrative and fundamental operational matters.
  • Reconcile bank accounts for the firm and various holding companies and family trusts.
  • Reconcile receivable / payable accounts for the firm with various BloombergSen funds on monthly basis.
  • Maintain monthly invoice checklist to ensure completeness and timely payment/receipts.
  • Review and process all expense reports from company credit cards and employees expense reports, ensuring compliance with Company’s policy and proper coding of expense.
  • Process payroll – submit to ADP – post into Sage and reconcile on a weekly basis.
  • Perform month-end closing duties to close the books and submit filings, including EHT, HST, Corporate Income Tax submissions within the regulatory deadlines.
  • Track and review expenses, including but not limited to legal fees, audit fees, donations, office renovation costs, and other operational expenditures. Maintain up-to-date payment schedules and reconcile payments against engagement letters or approved quotes.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records, including invoices and statement of accounts.
  • Assist in preparing the trial balance and income statement reporting monthly.
  • Support Compliance Group in adhering to BSI’s compliance program, including maintaining checklists, logs & recordkeeping, and various regulatory filings on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Liaise with CRA for ad hoc audits and requests made and provide updates to the team.
  • Assist in preparing monthly and year-end financial statements.
  • Assist in preparing reports for annual year-end audits.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with an accounting designation.
  • Minimum 5 years of previous professional bookkeeping experience in an investment firm or family office environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and concepts.
  • Knowledge of corporate taxes is an asset.
  • Knowledge of SAGE accounting software strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Open to learning new technology platforms to improve the reporting and payment systems.
  • Excellent communication skills (English oral and written).
  • Zero-tolerance attitude for accounting/money movement errors, working diligently to reduce risk of errors and to promptly resolve any that may arise.
  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and passionate for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability with excellent use of logic.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet internal/external deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with respect to managing workload
  • Proactive and takes ownership in the quality and completion of their work
