Plant Accountant

Our client, a furniture manufacturer located in Edmonton requires a Plant Accountant to join their team. Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, this position will be an integral component of the Edmonton finance department. The Plant Accountant will provide day-to-day support for the plant financial reporting and accounting functions. In this individual contributor role, you will leverage solid technical accounting skills to ensure that required detailed reporting and analysis is completed in both a timely and accurate manner, while collaborating with peers to contribute in improving work processes and supporting the company’s positive, dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities :

  • Gathering data and producing weekly and month end reports and summaries for management, e.g. maintenance expenses, freight costs analysis, sales reports etc.;
  • Preparing month-end journal entries and reconciliation. Performing reconciliation of bank account, intercompany accounts, balance sheet accounts etc.;
  • Ensures that the Toronto facility is able to report all monthly and quarterly financial results by reporting deadline;
  • Interacts with other departments to follow-up and investigate outstanding issues or questions;
  • Responsible for the accuracy, completeness and timely submission of audit request;
  • Assists in monitoring and enforcement of policies, procedures and controls designed to safeguard company assets;
  • Responsible for the accuracy of the quarterly/semi-annual physical inventory count and require analysis/adjustments;
  • Preparing government statistical reports;
  • Providing support to tasks or functions as requested by the Accounting Supervisor;
  • Providing support/backup to Credits/Invoicing/Payroll;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting;
  • 2 years+ full cycle accounting experience;
  • Medium to advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX and D365 an asset, but not a requirement;
  • You are a team oriented, self-starter who thrives on attention to detail;
  • You are a comfortable communicator through a variety of methods, always professional, courteous and timely;
  • You are efficient with your time and processes;
  • You are detailed oriented and accurate with your information and work;
  • You are comfortable and can easily navigate an organization’s informal and formal networks.
