Associate Advisor

Our client is seeking an Associate Advisor to join an established, independent wealth management practice focused on comprehensive financial planning, evidence-based investment management, and long-term relationships with high-net-worth families and individuals.

This is a long-term career opportunity for someone who wants to develop into a well-rounded financial advisor rather than remain in a traditional support role. Working directly with the lead advisor, the successful candidate will initially be involved in financial planning, client meetings and follow-up, investment management, and existing client relationships. As experience and capabilities develop, the role is intended to progress toward primary responsibility for a defined group of clients and potentially broader portfolio management responsibilities.

This is not a sales-focused role. There are no sales or product targets. The focus is on providing thoughtful advice, helping clients make good long-term financial decisions, and building trusted relationships.

The practice takes a long-term, evidence-based approach to investing, emphasizing broad diversification, disciplined portfolio management, tax and cost efficiency, and aligning investment decisions with each client’s financial plan and capacity and willingness to take risk.

Please note: must have reliable access to a vehicle during the first few months of the position.

Responsibilities :

  • Work closely with the lead advisor in delivering comprehensive financial planning and wealth management advice.
  • Prepare financial planning analysis, recommendations, planning summaries, and materials for client meetings.
  • Participate in client meetings and take responsibility for follow-up and implementation of planning recommendations.
  • Contribute to investment management activities, including portfolio analysis, investment reviews, and monthly and quarterly rebalancing.
  • Coordinate with accountants, lawyers, insurance professionals, and other external professionals in implementing client planning strategies.
  • Respond to client questions and requests with professionalism, sound judgment, and a high level of service.
  • Take ownership of projects and responsibilities, working independently while recognizing when guidance is appropriate.
  • Contribute ideas to improve planning processes, workflows, and the overall client experience.
  • As capabilities develop, assume primary responsibility for a defined group of client relationships, with the potential for broader financial planning and portfolio management responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Approximately three to seven years of relevant experience in financial planning, wealth management, investment management, or a related advisory environment.
  • Experience working directly with clients or meaningfully supporting client relationships.
  • Exposure to financial planning, investment management, tax, retirement, estate planning, or related areas.
  • CFP® designation or actively working toward completion.
  • Relevant post-secondary education would be an asset.
  • QAFP™, CIM®, CFA® or LLQP designation or progress toward one would be an asset.
  • Experience with financial planning software such as Snap Projections or Conquest would be an asset.
  • Experience with portfolio management software such as nDex or d1g1t would be an asset.
  • Experience within an independent wealth management or financial planning practice would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based investing would be an asset, but prior experience with this approach is not required.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and consistent follow-through.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to take ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do next.
  • The ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively when needed.
  • Curiosity, sound judgment, professionalism, and an open-minded approach to learning.
  • A genuine interest in helping clients make good long-term financial decisions.
