Job Description:
Our client located in Thornhill requires a Freight Documentation Specialist to join their team.
Responsibilities:
- Creating ocean bills of lading.
- Understanding original bills of lading vs seaway bills of lading.
- Understanding what a bill of lading is and what is on the bill of lading (shipper/notify party/consignee) weights etc.
- Interpreting commercial invoices.
- Understanding packing list gross weights vs net weights.
- Using online export filing system with Canada and us customs.
- Talking daily via email or phone to customers and shipping lines.
- Submitting bill of lading instructions in timely manner to shipping line.
- Filing verified gross weight with shipping lines by due dates.
- Completing FedEx waybills online for couriers.
- Filing shipping line invoices and trucking line invoices.
- Able to learn above tasks in timely manner, ask appropriate questions when unsure.
- Creating insurance forms for shippers.
- Creating certificates of origin for shippers.
- Able to work independently when needed.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in creating accurate ocean bills of lading.
- Understanding of the differences between original bills of lading and seaway bills of lading.
- Comprehensive knowledge of bill of lading components including shipper, notify party, consignee, and associated details such as weights.
- Ability to interpret and analyze commercial invoices effectively.
- Familiarity with packing list gross weights versus net weights.
- Experience using online export filing systems, particularly with Canada and US customs.
- Excellent communication skills for daily interaction with customers and shipping lines via email or phone.
- Timely submission of bill of lading instructions to shipping lines.
- Adherence to deadlines for filing verified gross weight with shipping lines.
- Competence in completing FedEx waybills online for couriers.
- Accurate filing of shipping line invoices and trucking line invoices.
- Demonstrated ability to learn tasks promptly and seek clarification when needed.
- Proficiency in creating insurance forms for shippers.
- Capability to generate certificates of origin for shippers accurately.
- Strong ability to work independently when necessary while maintaining productivity and efficiency.
