Job Description:
Our client within investment management requires an Associate, SMA to join their team. Reporting to the Vice President, Equity Trading the incumbent will contribute to the success of the company’s sub-advisory SMA programs through effective operations oversight, the maintenance of applicable model portfolios and trading execution.
Responsibilities:
Model Management (50% of the workload)
- Monitor security model updates and pending trading activity to be applied to related SMA models.
- Work closely with SMA team members and trading desk to ensure proper communication of all model updates amongst the team.
- Communicate with portfolio managers on SMA model changes as required.
- Maintain SMA models in a timely and accurate manner while adhering to client Investment Policy Guidelines.
- Calculate and book necessary bond and equity trades to bring SMA models housed on SS&C Pacer in line with master models when required.
- Review daily compliance reports to ensure SMA models are in line with master models and client Investment Policy Guidelines.
- Calculate and implement asset mix changes within SMA models when required.
- Execute SMA model changes on client platforms to reflect position changes implemented in the SMA models.
- Advise client contacts of model updates via email following each transaction according to established procedures.
- Communicate with external client contacts as required.
- Regularly review client portals to ensure SMA models are in line.
- Monitor upcoming corporate actions and provide updates to clients as required.
Operations Oversight (50% of the workload)
- Generate monthly and quarterly trading activity reports for internal and external parties.
- Provide monthly updates to portfolio managers and other interested parties regarding SMA program growth and asset flows.
- Aggregate client data to update SMA AUM on a monthly basis.
- Complete quarterly compliance reports for SMA clients and ensure that SMA mandates remain in compliance with official investment agreements.
- Monitor performance of SMA models on a monthly basis and compare them to other portfolios to ensure consistency between similar products.
- Work closely with the RFP team to complete quarterly questionnaires, annual requests for information and various database updates.
- Update and review monthly/quarterly client reporting (ex. data/performance requests).
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly portfolio commentaries specific to SMA mandates.
- Maintain and update any changes to investment policy guidelines with relevant operations teams as required.
- Work closely with internal operations teams to look for areas to strengthen/automate the process.
- Assist with the implementation of the new trading system by reviewing existing workflows and looking for ways to enhance the process and implement best practices.
Operations Oversight (40% of the workload)
- Generate monthly and quarterly trading activity reports for internal and external parties.
- Provide monthly updates to portfolio managers and other interested parties regarding SMA program growth and asset flows.
- Complete quarterly compliance reports for master models and ensure that SMA mandates remain in compliance with official investment agreements.
- Monitor performance of SMA models on a monthly basis and compare them to other portfolios to ensure consistency between similar products.
- Completion of quarterly questionnaires, annual requests for information and various data/performance requests.
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly portfolio commentaries specific to SMA mandates.
Trading (20% of the workload)
- Provide equity trading colleagues and portfolio managers with informal updates as to pending trading activity.
- Maintain manager-traded accounts by executing real-time trades on program sponsor provided trading platforms to process client-initiated deposit and withdrawal notifications.
- Maintain personal trading restricted securities list and vet personal trading requests when received from Compliance personnel.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge of Excel
- Asset management or portfolio operations experience dealing with client models/portfolios strongly recommended
- Experience with SMA portfolios considered an asset
- Must be highly detail oriented and organized
- Ability to prioritize workflow with minimal supervision
