Job Description:
Our client, personal injury law firm located in North York requires an AB Law Clerk to join their team.
Responsibilities:
- File all necessary OCF Forms in accordance with Lawyer/Paralegal instructions and/or within required timelines.
- Client communications – return client’s calls/emails immediately or as soon as practicably possible.
- Request all relevant and applicable medical documents on behalf of client, including but not limited to, ambulance records, hospital records, family doctor’s records, treatment facility records, specialist records, outstanding amounts from all facilities involved.
- Request updated records at least every 6 months on an ongoing file or based on requests from superiors.
- Professionally address any complaints or issues with demanding or frustrated clients, while demonstrating a high level of understanding of their legal needs.
- Keep detailed records of each conversation with all parties, including date of discussion, subject of discussion, result of discussion and so on. Same applies to emailed conversations.
- Schedule client meetings, telephone conferences and court/tribunal dates for Lawyers/Paralegals, such as Case Conferences, Settlement Conferences, Mediations, Examinations for Under Oath or Discovery etc.
- File application to License Appeal Tribunal as directed by supervising Paralegal/Lawyer.
- Diarize deadlines and reminders for Lawyers/Paralegal for any filing that was required for legal documents, hearings, or upcoming client meetings.
- Send a variety of internal and external correspondences, letters, reports, and other legal documents to opposing counsels, insurance companies and medical institutions in a professional and concise manner under the direction of a Lawyer/Paralegal.
- Manage the Paralegal/Lawyer’s schedule on their Outlook calendar to ensure there are no conflicts.
- Prepare response to undertakings, s.33 requests, obtain and provide requested documents as directed by the Lawyer/Paralegal.
Qualifications:
- Must be in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- A minimum of 2+ years experience working as a law clerk, working in the area of personal injury law
- Superior knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure, LAT/SABS
- Take initiative and work independently
- Possess superior organizational and task management skills
- Excellent client relation and interpersonal skills
